Souk is now live on 1stDibs, the world’s premier online marketplace for antiques and designer goods.
What does it mean?
1stDibs is a Franco-American e-commerce platform that connects vetted professional dealers to the global marketplace. It is a platform for art, jewelry, designer clothes, antique, and much else besides. But if you are reading this, I will assume your interest is rugs.
The platform allows users to browse and compare rugs shared by thousands of qualified vendors from across the globe.
Will Souk change?
Souk remains committed to existing clients and trade and design partners in the New York City area and further afield. In this sense, nothing about Souk will change.
What will change is this: Souk will now offer regular discounted pricing to trade and professional partners and to clients seeking to decorate their homes, officers, or other spaces. To inquire concerning the decorating discount, kindly email info@soukrugs.com.
Although there are no plans in motion for a physical souk, for those in the New York area, Souk will continue to be present at in-person design events, including Material Matters and Not-a-Normal Show.
Looking ahead
New clients around the country and abroad can now more easily access Souk’s inventory. People who would never turn to Souk for a 1920s Tibetan monastic sleeping rug might stumble upon it organically—if they happen to be browsing red-orange rugs of unusually dense pile and dappled warm-cool hues.
I hope this means that over time, Souk will be able to grow its inventory and offer more unique and weirdly beautiful rugs at competitive prices.
To paraphrase William Morris, I do not want beauty for a few any more than I want education for a few, or freedom for a few. I hope this is one step closer to making that a reality—at least as far as rugs are concerned.
