This vintage Persian jajim measures 5'11" x 9'5" (180 x 287 cm, or 71 x 113 inches) and was woven circa 1940 in undyed, naturally colored wool in a warm, versatile greige color. The composition is entirely open, presenting a soft, uniform field of warm gray-taupe-beige across its full surface. The rug is constructed from four narrow panels woven separately and sewn together lengthwise, and the seams where the panels join are visible as faint vertical lines that lend a quiet, subtle structure to the otherwise open field. Subtle tonal variation runs through the wool, giving the surface a gentle, textural depth that shifts with the light. The rug has a dense and substantial hand. Its neutral palette and complete absence of ornament make it exceptionally versatile, and it settles easily into contemporary, minimalist, and modernist interiors.
In construction, this rug is a jajim, a warp-faced flatweave, meaning that its surface is formed by the warp threads rather than the weft, which gives the textile a smooth, tightly packed face and a strong lengthwise orientation. Very good vintage condition. The weave structure is dense and substantial, and the rug is suitable for floor use. A rug pad is recommended to anchor it in place on hard surfaces.
