This area rug in a square format presents a cheerful mélange of citrus-yellow tones. A densely woven midcentury piece in a practical size, it accommodates a range of decorative uses.
Midcentury Minimalism from Mazandaran
This hand-dyed wool kilim boasts an inviting range of yellow hues, from citron and canary to deeper mustard and maize. As with other minimalist weavings, the subtle variations in the wool lend depth and evoke a modernism that belies its rustic origins.
This wool-on-wool kilim was woven around the middle of the last century in Mazandaran, a mountainous subtropical province along the southeastern shores of the Caspian Sea. It is comprised of strips woven on narrow handlooms and sewn into a single, nearly square whole. The rug ends are turned down and hand-sewn to create swelled edges free of fringe.
Condition and Use
This kilim is in a pristine state of preservation. No stains, holes, or condition issues are noted. The wool stitching between strips is strong and in-tact.
The wool used in this rug is dense and robust. With proper care, it will withstand use in a high-traffic area for generations. Use of a rug pad is recommended to extend the life of the rug and anchor it in place, especially on slippery and hard surfaces.
