This Persian kilim is in a surprisingly muted shade of citron, gold, and dandelion knots. It belongs to a group of rugs traditionally woven on narrow handlooms in villages along the dramatic Caspian coastline in northern Iran. Like the other rugs belonging to this group, the present piece tends toward minimalism in its design, although the subtle variegations in colors of its knots lend it a sense of movement and depth that enhance its appeal and versatility.
