Mazandaran Citron kilim

This earth-toned natural wool kilim is stupendously thick and robust, befitting the rugged terrain of the north Persian province, Mazandaran, from which it comes. Woven in individual strips on narrow looms and then tightly stitched into a single, cohesive rug, this piece draws a mature energy from its subtly mottled almond, khaki, and bone wool from which it woven.

As with the Mazandaran group as a whole, the subtle depth and shading of this rug evoke a modernism that belies its rustic, vintage origins in the middle of the last century.
